French Top 14 team Toulon announced on Tuesday their decision to appeal a €500,000 fine imposed by the National Rugby League (LNR) for failing to maintain transparency and cooperation during the 2022/23 season.

This penalty was issued by the LNR's 'Salary Cap' section of the Discipline Commission.

The severity of the fine is attributed to Toulon's status as repeat offenders.

In December of last year, they were fined €70,000 for a similar infraction related to their 2021 signing of South African star Cheslin Kolbe from rival team Toulouse.

"The 500,000 euro fine is strongly contested by the club, who will appeal this decision in the coming days to the French Rugby Federation (FFR) Appeals Commission," said Toulon in a statement released.

Toulon finished the 2023/24 season in the semi-final qualifiers where they were defeated by La Rochelle with a 29-34 margin.
