Bordeaux have announced the signing of Ireland international Joey Carbery ahead of the 2024/25 season.

His move to France follows after ending his six-year association with Munster that started in 2018. Having made over 50 appearances for the Irish province, he also was part of the squad that won the United Rugby Championship in the 2022/23 season.

Prior to joining Munster, the 28-year-old, whose career was hampered by repeated injuries started his professional rugby career with Leinster and played 37 times for them. He also went on to win a double of European Champions Cup and United Rugby Championship in the 2017/18 season.

Carbery made his Ireland debut in 2016 and has featured in 37 Tests and was part of the side that went on to win the Grand Slam in 2018.

He will now compete with Matthieu Jalibert for the number 10 jersey at Bordeaux and will play under Irish attack coach Noel McNamara.

Bordeaux were defeated by a 3-59 margin by eventual winners Toulouse in the final of the 2023/24 Top 14 season.
