Johnny McNicholl signs new deal with Crusaders until 2026

Crusaders have announced that Johnny McNicholl has signed a contract extension with the Super Rugby club until the end of 2026 season.

The 33-year-old started his career with professional rugby career with provincial side Canterbury in 2011 and went on to make his Super Rugby debut for Crusaders in 2013.

McNicholl made a switch to Scarlets in 2016 and went on to make 130 appearances for the Welsh provincial side scoring 53 tries. He returned back to Crusaders in the 2024 season and now has recommitted his future with the club for the next two seasons.

He has also played 10 Tests for Wales since making his international debut in 2020.

“I’m very pleased to sign with the Crusaders through to 2026,” McNicholl told the club's official website.

“I always knew coming back and playing in front of family would be a great experience, and I’ve loved my time being back in the Crusaders environment.

“Our home fans are some of the best and most loyal around, so playing for them has been fantastic.”

Crusaders head coach Rob Penney is delighted with McNicholl remaining with the club.

“Having Johnny back in the mix has been great both on and off the field. He’s a great man and a top-notch footballer,” Penney said.

“I’m sure I’m joined by all our members and fans in being thrilled to have him wearing the colours for another two years.”
