Premiership club Bath has announced that former Bulls flanker Jacques du Plessis has departed the team due to "personal reasons."

The 31-year-old player joined Bath earlier this year after his recovery from a long-term injury and made a total of five appearances for the club.

Du Plessis initially signed for Bath in March 2024, having previously been associated with the Bulls in South Africa.

Despite his promising start, the flanker decided to return to his home country after a brief stint with the Premiership side. His first competitive start came in last season’s Premiership fixture against Harlequins, where he showcased his skills on the field.

Bath Rugby expressed their support for du Plessis' decision and acknowledged his contributions during his time at the club. His departure is a significant change for the squad, but the team wishes him the best as he transitions back to South Africa.

"Jacques has left Bath Rugby with immediate effect by mutual consent for personal, family reasons," said Bath Head of Rugby Johann van Graan.

“I, and the club, wish Jacques the very best for the future and we wish him and his family very well."

Bath are positioned fourth in the Gallagher Premiership table with two wins from three games in the ongoing Gallagher Premiership.
