England will be without their centre Meg Jones for the upcoming WXV tournament following an ankle injury.

Jones has played a pivotal role for the England team since rejoining the team from the sevens circuit last year. The 27-year-old quickly became a core member of John Mitchell’s leadership group and delivered several standout performances.

She also represented Great Britain in sevens at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking her second Olympic appearance. However, she is now preparing to undergo surgery.

“It’s always upsetting when you lose a teammate to injury, especially someone with Meg’s personality, capability and leadership,” head coach Mitchell said.

“When you lose a player of Meg’s ability, it presents the chance for someone else to step up and seize the opportunity.

“We wish Meg well for her recovery and look forward to having her back in the squad ahead of next year’s Six Nations.”

England are grouped alongside Canada, France, Ireland, New Zealand and the United States in Division One of the WXV. They will be taking on the USA in Vancouver in the opening game of the tournament on 29th September.
