Saracens lock Maro Itoje is in danger of missing out on the Premiership play-offs after he was cited for a dangerous tackle in the recently concluded game against Bath Rugby.
Itoje was sin-binned by referee Luke Pearce after consultation with television match official (TMO) David Rose for a tackle on Alfie Barbeary in the 29th minute of the encounter.
Itoje will appear before an independent disciplinary hearing on Tuesday and if proved guilty he will be handed a minimum suspension of three games which could be reduced by a week if he completes the World Rugby Coaching Intervention programme which will see him miss the league games against Bristol Bears and Sale Sharks.
A more severe suspension could see him miss the play-offs should Mark McCall's men secure qualification.
Saracens are at second place in the Premiership table with 10 wins from 16 matches.
