Ireland have suffered a double injury blow ahead of the second Test against South Africa with both hooker Dan Sheehan and scrumhalf Craig Casey ruled out due to injuries.

Sheehan suffered a knee injury during the first Test in Pretoria as he was replaced at half time . Even though the extent of the damage was not revealed, it was understood that he damaged his anterior cruciate ligament which could put him on the sidelines for a lengthy period.

Meanwhile, Casey suffered a concussion during the second half of the game with his head slamming to the ground and was stretchered off the field.

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has named Connacht’s Dave Heffernan and Ulster’s Nathan Doak as replacements with the duo already joining the squad on Monday.

Heffernan has played seven Tests for Ireland with his last appearance coming in 2022 while Doak despite being with the senior squad for a substantial period is still uncapped.

Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium in Durban will host the second and final Test between the two teams on 13th July.
