Former Los Pumas captain and a legendary figure in Argentine rugby Agustin Creevy has signed with Italian club Benetton to compete in the United Rugby Championship (URC).

The signing comes just weeks after Creevy announced his retirement from international rugby, concluding an illustrious career with Argentina.

The 39-year-old hooker, who has been a cornerstone of Los Pumas for the past decade, was instrumental in Argentina's memorable wins over the All Blacks and Australia during the Rugby Championship in August, where he capped off his international journey. Creevy retired with a record 110 caps, earning his final one in his hometown of La Plata.

With a wealth of experience spanning top-tier leagues such as France’s Top 14, the English Premiership, Super Rugby, and now the URC, Creevy brings significant expertise to Benetton. He has previously played for Biarritz, Clermont, Montpellier, Worcester Warriors, London Irish, Sale Sharks, and Los Jaguares.

At Benetton, Creevy will reunite with fellow Argentinian internationals including Thomas Gallo, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Tomás Albornoz, and Ignacio Mendy. Additionally, he will be joined by uncapped Argentine talent Bautista Bernasconi and Italian-capped Argentine players Juan Ignacio Brex and Iván Nemer.

Reflecting on his remarkable career, Creevy’s impact on the national stage is highlighted by his participation in four Rugby World Cups—in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023—reaching the semifinals twice. His longevity and dedication have also set a new Argentine record for matches played in World Cups, solidifying his legacy as one of Argentina’s greatest rugby players.

Despite offers from clubs in England and France, Creevy chose Benetton, looking to continue his career in European rugby. As he embarks on this new chapter, his wealth of experience and leadership are expected to be a valuable addition to the Italian side’s ambitions in the URC.

“I am happy to be part of the Treviso family, said Creevy.

“It’s a club where there are many of my friends and above all, I have a lot of respect for the team.

“The URC is the only tournament I have left to play in my career, and personally Italy is a country that I like.

“Its people and history make it an incredible place to live and especially to play rugby. My goal is to play a lot, have fun, be able to share my experience with the younger guys, and fight to aim for great goals".
