Waratahs have announced the signing of former English international Mike Catt as the new attack coach ahead of the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Catt has played 75 times for England and made a solitary appearance for the British and Irish Lions in a career spanned between 1994 and 2007. He was also part of the side that went on to win the Rugby World Cup in 2003.

Following his retirement, he started his coaching career as an attack coach with London Irish in 2008 following which he held the role of backs coach with England before being the assistant coach of Italy.

The 52-year-old was recently involved with Ireland as an attack coach and now will be part of the backroom staff headed by incoming head coach Dan McKellar with Dan Palmer, and Lachlan McCaffrey also being the other assistant coaches.

“We’re thrilled to have acquired such a well-credentialed and experienced group of individuals to lead our club forward,” Director of High Performance Simon Raiwalui said.

“The process encompassed talent identification and analysis domestically and internationally and I’m confident that these men will each make a positive impact on the Waratahs.

“Our players will be blessed with elite guidance and expertise to progress their careers and bring on-field success to our members and fans.”

The Waratahs would also expressed their gratitude for the contributions of outgoing assistant coaches Chris Whitaker and Pauli Taumoepeau, Head of Athletic Performance Nick Lumley, Team Manager Will Stuart, and physiotherapists Cam Dyer and Alan Robinson.
