Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has released five players from the squad for the remainder of the summer tour.

Glen Young will be heading back home after injuring a pectoral muscle that he sustained during a training session last week.

He will be joined by Ross Thompson, Elliot Millar Mills, Ross McCann and Robbie Smith in the list of departing players.

Meanwhile, Townsend has called up uncapped trio Ben Afshar, Rob Carmichael and Fin Richardson to join the squad as development players for the remaining matches in the tour.

Having won their matches against Canada and the USA, Scotland will be facing Chile and Uruguay next on 20th and 27th July respectively.

Townsend will be releasing further members of the squad following the game against the Chile as the encounter against Uruguay falls outside the traditional international window which means only Glasgow and Edinburgh players will be available.
