Exeter Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter wants his side to maintain the winning start in the ongoing Investec Champions Cup.

The Chiefs riding on tries from Harvey Skinner, Max Norey and Jacques Vermeulen edged out Toulon in the opening game of the competition at Stade Felix Mayol.

They now have a home game against Munster in the second round on Sunday and Baxter is wary of the challenge ahead.

"There should be more positivity around Premiership rugby than there is at the moment, but at the same time we also have to be able to back that up,” Baxter told the BBC.

"If we just fall down to Munster and play poorly, if Premiership clubs now going into their second games perform poorly, that starts to drop away again.

"For me, we'll know those answers a little bit down the line. One round is a little early to tell.

"If we're towards the latter stages and there's a few Premiership clubs involved, then we can start to look at the reasons why that's happened."

Munster started the tournament with a 17-17 draw against Bayonne and fly-half Jack Crowley stressed on the need to get a win early in the competition.

"Not many go to Toulon and come back from 18-5 down," Crowley told RTÉ Sport. "To do that comeback is probably something that [means] they are going to have a lot of momentum coming into this weekend and we are aware of that.

"They’ve also played eight games in the Premiership and won five. There have been a lot of changes in their squad, but they’ve made it work. That’s down to Baxter being a quality coach.
